The T-100 was a heavy Soviet tank prototype with twin turrets, which was designed in 1938-39 to replace the T-35 .
development
From 1932 onwards, ostensibly at the direct suggestion of Stalin , development work began in the Soviet Union on a whole series of super-heavy tanks. These constructions (T-35, T-39 , SMK , T-100) came from the Leningrad Locomotive Factory or the "Leningrad Research Institute No. 185", which is why the samples are variously referred to as the "Leningrad Monster". The T-100 and SMK tanks were commissioned in April 1938 to replace the outdated T-35 multi -turn tanks . Final assembly was completed on July 31, 1939 and the vehicle was handed over to the military for testing. In February 1940 the T-100 took part in the winter war with Finland together with other experimental tanks SMK and KW (which was still armed with two cannons in a turret) . Experience at the front showed that the tank was well protected against 37- and 45-mm PAKs , but the armament was too weak for the task at hand, namely the destruction of the fortifications. In April 1940 the further development of the T-100 was given up in favor of the KW tank.
More prototypes
Further prototypes were designed based on the T-100, but apart from the T-100X / SU-100U , which was derived from the T-100Y , no further designs were completed.
- T-100X : with a 130-mm vessel gun B-13, and later for SU-100U developed
- T-100Y : with a 152mm cannon
- T-100Z : with a 152mm M-10T howitzer and a 45mm 20K cannon
- Object 0-50 : heavy breakthrough tank with one 76mm / L-11 cannon and one 45mm 20K cannon in a turret
- Object 103 : heavy breakthrough tank with a 130 mm B-13 cannon
