life and career

Jones was known for his sensitive handling of the ball and opponents and was referred to as the gentleman of football. Many greats like Stanley Matthews or Dixie Dean called him the best player they would have ever seen. In 1934 the Welshman joined AFC Wrexham , two years later he moved to Everton FC for £ 3,000 . He stayed with the Toffees until 1950 and won the English championship in 1939. When the Italian club AS Roma offered the then record transfer fee of £ 15,000 for him, Everton turned it down. After a serious injury that left him bedridden for four months, he ended his active career in 1950. Internationally, he played 17 times for the Welsh national football team . After his active career, he became a coach and coached, among others, Bangor City and FC Rhyl . In 2000 he was inducted into the Everton FC Hall of Fame. TG Jones died in 2004 at the age of 86.
