The TAG 25 diesel railcar of the Tegernseebahn (TAG) was manufactured in 1940 by the Esslingen machine works . It operated on the Tegernseebahn until 1966 and was then sold to SWEG Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG , where it was in operation until the mid-1970s. The railcar was retired and scrapped in 1975.

history

In the 1930s, the Tegernseebahn, together with the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen, designed this diesel-mechanical railcar, which was approved for a top speed of 110 km / h, for express transport from Tegernsee station to Munich . Due to its wide windows and upscale equipment, it was also suitable for excursions.

The delivery of the railcar dragged on until September 15, 1940. Since diesel fuel was already rationed during the Second World War , the railcar was converted for LPG operation before it was commissioned . Eight liquefied gas bottles were therefore mounted on the roof of the blue and white painted car. The railcar was run on the same level as the express railcars of that time . Soon after it was put into operation, its space was no longer sufficient, so that it drove with a sidecar. In 1943 the railcar was parked due to the war.

After the end of the war, the railcar designated as TAG 25 was converted back to diesel operation and used again between Tegernsee and Munich Holzkirchener Bahnhof from 1950 to May 1966 . During the 19 years of service he had covered 1,144,349 km.

SWEG Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG VT 105

Since it was no longer needed from 1966, the railcar was sold to the Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG that year and designated as the VT 105 . With company trips from Kandern , later from Staufen and from 1968 from Wiesloch , it was used on longer routes. From the 1970s onwards, the railcar became more and more prone to failure and after several failed repair attempts, it was parked in Wiesloch in 1975. In 1977 it was scrapped in Menzingen .

Constructive features

The four-axle vehicle was made of lightweight steel according to the frame construction. Originally it had a transition door and an apron that could also be used as a snow plow. The transition door was removed after the war.

The railcar had a driver's cab on each end. One of the driver's cabs was followed by a second- class compartment with 12 seats , which was accessible via a side aisle. On the other side of the car, behind the driver's cab, was a luggage compartment and a side compartment with 6 2nd class seats.

The entry rooms, where the toilets were located, were connected to these compartments. Between the entry areas there were two large compartments of the same size for smokers and non-smokers in 3rd class, each with 56 seats, which were divided by a central aisle. In terms of the seating arrangement and room layout, the carriage class later changed to 1./2. Car class.

The machinery was stored in a separate frame under these large compartments, it originally consisted of an 8-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine each, which were designed as boxer engines , they gave their power to a Mylius gearbox with four gears. From this the inner axles of the bogies were driven via cardan shafts. There are different statements about the number of driven axles: on the one hand, all axles are referred to as driven, in another source the axle sequence (1A) (A1) is specified.
