It is the first domestic jet aircraft development in Turkey .

history

Turkey's decision to develop its own fighter jet was made in December 2010. The order for a feasibility study and the development of a basic concept for the development of a domestic Turkish training and fighter jet was awarded to TAI by the Turkish Ministry of Defense in August 2011. In November 2011 it was announced that a 40-person planning group had carried out a feasibility study in collaboration with Saab . The aircraft should be delivered by 2023. In January 2017 it was announced that TAI and BAE Systems (British Aerospace Electronic Systems) had reached an agreement whereby BAE Systems would participate in the development of the prototype as a foreign partner. The prototype is scheduled to complete its first flight in 2023 and series production will start between 2025 and 2030. US $ 150 million has been pledged to develop the prototype.

Engine

In January 2015 it was announced that Aselsan and Eurojet Turbo had signed a letter of intent according to which the engine would be based on the Eurojet EJ200 , the engine of the Eurofighter .

In May 2017, Turkey and the United Kingdom signed a contract for the joint development of a new engine. The Rolls-Royce Group and the Kale Group have come together in a joint venture under the TAI banner. Competitors such as B. Eurojet and General Electric are still available as options. At the end of October it was announced that General Electric had won the tender. You can choose from the General Electric F110-GE-129 or F110-GE-132 turbines .
