The TI-84 Plus is a graphical calculator from the American semiconductor and electronics company Texas Instruments .

History and characteristics

The first model was launched in 2004. According to standard Texas Instruments naming conventions, “plus” indicates that Flash ROM memory is built in. The TI-84 Plus is the successor to the TI-83 Plus (1999) and is compatible with every TI-83-Plus program, but has almost three times the storage capacity (in the "Silver Edition" variant, even more than nine times as much) .

The TI-84 Plus and the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition both have a " Zilog Z80 " processor clocked at 15 MHz .

The following table shows the technical properties of the Ti-84 compared to TI-83 .

The TI-84-Plus can be connected to a computer or another TI-84 Plus / Plus Silver Edition via mini-USB , the 2.5 mm jack socket is available for connection to a TI-83 (Plus) or TI-82 (Stats). The so-called teacher version of the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition has a wide plug at the top for connecting a transparent liquid crystal overlay called a ViewScreen for projection of the screen content using an overhead projector . The current version of the TI-84 Plus operating system is 2.55MP.

Program

The TI-84 can be programmed using both TI-Basic and Z80 assembler . A possible but difficult variant of the assembly is that a TI-Basic program is created, which is structured as follows:

 : AsmPrgm
 : "Programmcode in Hexadezimal"

The programmer must have the entire instruction set in stock or know it by heart. There is a danger that an incorrect command can render the TI unusable (overwriting of memory) and also that an incorrect command immediately resets the TI-84 Plus to its factory settings, whereby the program is lost. With AsmComp()assembler programs can be compiled and Asm()executed with.

Further developments

  • TI-84 Plus Silver Edition offers more memory for user data (1.5  MiB ).
  • An advanced software emulation for Windows and Mac is SmartView for TI-84 Plus.
  • TI-Nspire with ClickPad can emulate a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition using an additional exchangeable keyboard .
  • TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition as a variant with 65,000-color display and background lighting as well as a proprietary lithium-polymer battery .
