TIO (association)

The meeting and information place e. V. (TIO) is a meeting place and information point for migrant women of all nationalities. The facility was founded in West Berlin in 1978 under the name “Meeting and Information Center for Women from Turkey”, initially only for Turks and Kurds and was the first of its kind in the divided city. TIO has been a founding member of the Interest Group Qualification Projects for Migrant Women (IGIP) since 1996 .

TIO's advanced training projects aim to "improve the living situation and equal participation of women with a migration background in the areas of the labor market, family and politics [...] through education and advice".

history

The Berlin research funded from 1979 a three-year scientific investigation of the advisory institution. This was followed by the first public funding.

On September 25, 1984 , the club hit the headlines after an attack that killed one woman and seriously injured a second. Charges against a suspect resulted in an acquittal for lack of evidence. The political orientation of the perpetrator was assigned to the environment of the gray wolves .

TIO offers receive project and target group-related funding from the Berlin Senate , the European Social Fund , the Berlin Employment Agency and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . However, since 2003 TIO has been hit by drastic cuts.

Awards

According to the association (website), TIO received awards and other funding, for example in 2000 from Federal President Johannes Rau .

At the end of 2002, the TIO organization was awarded the Edzard Reuter Foundation's award for international understanding, endowed with 15,000 euros . The laudation was given by Bishop Wolfgang Huber .
