The TRD Travel Fischer GmbH & Co. KG is a 1960 based bus company based in Dortmund . TRD-Reisen Fischer is active in urban bus services as well as in bus charter traffic. The bus fleet comprises 56 coaches and regular buses. The company employs around 150 people.

Company history

In 1960 the TRD Reisen Fritz Fischer GmbH and Co. KG was founded by the Dortmund bus driver Fritz Fischer. Together with his wife Christel Fischer-Albrecht, he opened a travel agency on Kleppingstrasse in Dortmund, and the first depot was built on Semerteichstrasse. Then as now, the company not only offers bus travel, but is also active in regular services. In the beginning it was still shuttle services for mines and factories with which the workers were chauffeured to their workplaces, today it is DSW21 and Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Unna GmbH (VKU), on whose behalf TRD is on the road. In 1969 the company moved into a new depot in Güntherstrasse. Five years later, construction work began on the third depot in Spähenfelde, which has been the company's location since 1975.

In 1969, TRD was the first bus company to offer trips to Yugoslavia. Also in the 1960s, TRD started a collaboration with co op AG . After the initial coffee trips to the co op company headquarters, the idea arose to sell trips in the individual co op branches, until co op finally opened its own travel agencies. In 1990 TRD took over these 14 Ferienwelt travel agencies and merged them with their own TRD travel agencies.

Jumbocruiser from TRD

In 1976, TRD acquired a jumbo cruiser , which is still the largest bus in the world today. With a length of 18 meters and a height of 4 meters, the vehicle used the maximum dimensions allowed at the time with a width of 2.50 meters and offered a total of 90 people. The bus was built between 1975 and 1992 by the German bus manufacturer Neoplan and was used by TRD for travel to Spain and Croatia as well as for day trips to Paris. By 2002, TRD had used a total of three jumbo cruisers.

In 1982 Fritz Fischer opened the Berg- und Sporthotel Neubichler Alm in Piding, Bavaria, after a 15-month construction period. In the first few years, the hotel served as a place for overnight stays in the direction of Yugoslavia and is now a family paradise.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, TRD founded a sister company in Dresden. The first trips from Dresden led to Dortmund, Nuremberg and Munich. This was followed by trips abroad, to Paris, Spain or Italy and as far as Greece.

Since August 2010, TRD has been using a hybrid bus in regular service for Dortmund's municipal utilities . The Volvo 7700 Hybrid has a parallel hybrid drive that combines a diesel engine with an electric motor. The deceleration energy generated during braking is used to charge the batteries, which then drive the electric motor when starting and accelerating. In 2011 a second identical vehicle followed.

A joint venture was founded under the umbrella of FRABUS GmbH with the travel service Erich Sack. Both companies have a 50% stake in this company. Since September 1, 2010, TRD has been running staff trips at Frankfurt Airport. A total of 15 buses are used. The order from Fraport AG has a term of three years and a volume of 10 million euros.

Daughter Anja Fischer has been running the company since 2000. Her brother Kai-Friedrich is a partner. In mid-2010 the company was renamed TRD-Reisen Fischer GmbH & Co KG. In 2016 Victoria Fischer was appointed managing director.

Business areas

Bus travel

TRD organized around 500 trips every year and is one of the last bus companies to offer holiday destination transport. In the summer months, buses regularly commute to Spain, Bavaria and Lake Garda every week, and in winter to ski regions in Bavaria and Austria. In total, TRD uses eleven long-distance coaches, including three VIP de luxe buses. With the increasing number of low-cost airlines, interest in bus travel decreased. For this reason, the family business had to part with this business area with a heavy heart in 2013. The division was sold to Herrmann Meyering.

Line bus operation

TRD has been using public service buses on behalf of the city of Dortmund - today DSW21 - since 1969 . 22 buses are currently in use. A Volvo 7700 Hybrid bus has been running on route 453 between Schüren and the northern city center since August 2010. Since 2007, TRD has been running two buses on behalf of the VKU and since 2009 with seven disabled-friendly buses for the Gottessegen workshop in Dortmund. The sister company TRD Reisen Dresden operates 25 buses as a subcontractor for VGM and RBO in and around Dresden in regional transport.

Charter / special groups

TRD provides buses for tour groups of all sizes and can organize the complete travel program on request. A vintage bus from 1965 with 28 seats and a panoramic roof can be rented for special trips at the Dortmund location. There is also a vintage bus from the 1960s with 32 seats at the Dresden location. Wheelchair-accessible minibuses can also be chartered in Dortmund.

Travel agency

TRD Travel chatted with the TRD travel world in the Dortmund area Aplerbeck own travel agency. This was also closed with the sale of the tourism branch.

property

TRD leases around 10,000 m² of commercial space at the Im Spähenfelde 51 site in Dortmund and at the Marsdorf site in Dresden.
