Technical reference concentration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The technical reference concentration ( TRK value) indicates the concentration of a substance as a gas , vapor or suspended matter in the air at the workplace , which, according to the state of the art , may be reached as a maximum. TRK values are only given for carcinogenic , suspected and mutagenic substances for which no MAK value may be given. The TRK value is intended to minimize the risk of damage to health, since even if the TRK value is adhered to, impairment of human health cannot be ruled out. The TRK values apply to people who are healthy and of working age.

The TRK value was a limit value of the German Hazardous Substances Ordinance (GefStoffV) until its new version came into force on January 1, 2005. In Austria, TRK values are still bindingly determined in accordance with the Limit Value Ordinance (GKV).

Germany

With the entry into force of the new Hazardous Substances Ordinance, a new limit value concept has existed since January 1, 2005. The new GefStoffV only knows health-based limit values, called workplace limit values (AGW) and biological limit values (BGW). The old designations MAK values and BAT values can and should, however, continue to be used as guide and orientation values until the regulation is fully implemented. Since 2013, the Committee for Hazardous Substances for Carcinogenic Substances in the Air in the Workplace has been deriving substance-specific exposure-risk relationships (ERB) and substance-specific acceptance and tolerance concentrations ( TRGS 910).
