TVR 2 is the second public television program in Romania . The transmitter started operations in 1972 , but was switched off from 1985 to 1989 due to a lack of energy, even TVR 1 broadcast only two hours a day during this time. It was not until May 1990 , six months after the Romanian Revolution at Christmas 1989 , that the program could be broadcast again. Since 2003 the station has been the market leader in Romania thanks to some popular programs such as Tonomatul DP2 , which had particularly good ratings during the Callatis Festival , which it broadcast for a week.

The main news program, Ora de știri (News Hour ), airs every day at 9 p.m. There will also be a repeat of the news program Jurnalul TVR that aired on TVR 1 at 2pm at 4pm . In addition, regional programs are broadcast at certain times.

In 2017, TVR 2 was in 15th place in Romania with an average of 57,000 viewers a day.

The program can be received across Europe via the Eutelsat 16A satellite at 16.0 ° East. Like TVR 1 and TVR HD, it is encrypted via satellite and you need a receiver with an activated card for reception.
