Ta-Ke , in its own spelling TA-KE, is a strategic board game by the game designer Arve D. Fühler for two people. The game was published in 2017 by the German game publisher HUCH! . Thematically, the two players try to get the greatest possible influence in the country through suitable people at court in the role of the Japanese Shogun .

Theme and equipment

The game is a board game in which the two players have to achieve as many points as possible through tactical use with person chips of different colors in the courtyard of their palace.

In addition to the instructions, the game material consists of:

  • a game board with a central audience hall, one courtyard per player and a scoring bar in the form of a garden path in a Japanese garden on the side of the game board,
  • 35 person chips, seven each with the portrait of a daimyō (orange), a rōnin (blue), a geisha (violet), a ninja (black) and a samurai (gray),
  • 5 white ghost stones,
  • 2 player markers and
  • a cloth bag.

Style of play

To prepare for the game, the game board is placed in the middle of the table between the two players. Each player chooses a player marker color and places it at the start of the scoring track. All personal chips are placed in the cloth bag and mixed well, then the players take turns to draw a chip and place it on the designated fields in the audience hall in the middle of the game board. The stacks are filled up to seven chips, beginning with the samurai field. Three chips of the same type may never be stacked on top of each other.

Starting with a starting player, the two players take turns taking turns and each turn four actions. At the beginning of each turn, the players may perform the characteristics of the people in front of them (not applicable in the first turn) Each player may only use each character once per turn and each chip only once in the game. In order to use the property of a person, a player must always have at least one chip of the respective person in the bottom position in his corresponding row. He selects the person and the action and pushes the chip from the lowest to the middle row of the display. The characteristics of the people are shown in the following table:

After a player has used the properties of his chips, he takes the top person chip from any free (not yet covered with a ghost chip) person pile in the audience hall. He then places an unused ghost stone on the stack or later on the free space. If the player has no more free stacks available at the beginning of his turn, he removes all ghost stones and can then choose a stack. He places the chip he picked up in the corresponding row of his audience room, with all chips except for the samurai being placed on the bottom row. A samurai is placed in the top row. Several chips can be placed on top of each other in the bottom row as well as in the samurai row.

As soon as the chip has been placed, both players are scored. The "influence at the royal court" results from the evaluation of the person exposed by taking the chip (in the case of an empty pile, the space below) in the audience hall from the sum of the people of this type in the audience hall, the sum of all values ​​of the corresponding people in the audience hall respective audience hall and the number of samurai in the corresponding row of people. The points are marked by the player marker on the garden path.

The game ends when the last person chip has been removed from the audience hall and scored. The winner is the player with the most points after the last scoring.

Development and reception

The game TA-KE was developed by the German game designer Arve D. Fühler and launched in 2017 by the German publisher HUCH! published in a multilingual version. The release of the game was originally planned for the Nuremberg Toy Fair in January 2017, but was delayed until September 2017.
