Tabaré Viera

Tabaré Viera Duarte (born April 7, 1955 ) is a Uruguayan politician .

Viera, who belongs to the Partido Colorado , was from February 15, 1985 to February 14, 1990 MP for the Rivera Department . Here he was a member of the Comisión Permanente de Hacienda , and from 1987 to 1988 President of the Comisión Permanente de Ganadería . From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the board of directors of Obras Sanitarias del Estado , was vice-president from 1995 to July 1998 and then president of ANTEL from August 1998 to February 2002 .

In 2000 he was elected Intendente of Rivera. Five years later he was able to defend this office in the context of re-election. In 2004 he was also a candidate for the Partido Colorado, representing the Foro Batllista , for the office of Vice President. From 2005, his name was also traded as his party's candidate for the 2009 elections. In 2008, however, he decided to support Luis Hierro López 's candidacy .

Since February 15, 2010, due to his successful performance in the 2009 election, he has been a senator in the Cámara de Senadores .
