Tactical light
A tactical light ( Tactical Light, Taclight for short ) is a lamp that is used together with a firearm . The lamp is usually attached to the weapon (with handguns below the barrel) so that the weapon can be used with both hands or one hand is free for other activities. Combinations with a laser attachment are also possible.
A possible disadvantage is that no things or people can be illuminated without pointing the weapon at them. In addition, loose lights can also be used as cutting weapons if they are of the appropriate size and stability.
Taclights were developed because criminological studies have shown that a large part of official operations such as hostage rescue or arrests take place in poor light conditions. In addition, holding a lamp at the same time can make it difficult to carry a weapon or, in the case of a long weapon, may not be possible at all. Technically, tactical lights are not limited to the use of visible light; there are also versions with infrared light that are designed for use with night vision devices . There are also dimmable versions and versions with flashing light effects - the latter are intended to irritate people who are illuminated and thus limit their ability to act.
The Bundeswehr uses the LLM01 for the G36 .
Assembly
Depending on the weapon, Taclights are attached under the barrel or on the side of the barrel; for weapons with a mounting rail , the Taclight can also be attached to this. So that the user can switch the light on and off quickly at any time, the control switch is located in an ergonomically advantageous position, usually on the handle.

Germany
In Germany, the Weapons Act prohibits any form of target lighting or marking that is mounted on weapons for private individuals .
Austria
Gun searchlights have been allowed in Austria since January 1, 2019.
