Tahani al-Gebali

Tahani al-Gebali ( Arabic تهاني الجبالي, DMG Tahānī al-Ǧibālī ; * November 9, 1950 in Tanta ) is Vice-President of the Egyptian Constitutional Court .

She was appointed to her office by President Husni Mubarak in 2003 , as one of seventeen constitutional judges, and was the only female judge in Egypt until 2007. In 1968 she began her law studies in Cairo . Al-Gebali worked as a lawyer for 30 years and also represented workers after the 1977 Bread Riot or lengthy divorce cases. Before her appointment, she was also active as a women's rights activist. She holds a diploma in Islamic law .
