Tahya Tounes ( French Vive la Tunisie , Long live Tunisia , Arabic تحيا تونس, DMG Taḥyā Tūnis ) is a Tunisian liberal party founded in 2019 . It is headed by Youssef Chahed , who converted from his old Nidaa Tounes party to the new Tahya Tounes party during his time as Prime Minister .

history

The start of the new party was the founding of the faction of the National Coalition ( French Coalition nationale ) on August 27, 2018, which initially consisted of 34 members of the People's Assembly . These moved in particular from the parties Nidaa Tounes , Machrouu Tounes and the Free Patriotic Union to the new parliamentary group. At the end of the 2019 parliamentary term, the parliamentary group that became the Tahya Tounes faction had 43 members. This made it the second largest party in the People's Assembly after the Ennahda.

On January 27, 2019, Selim Azzabi , former director of the Office of the President of the Republic of Tunisia , announced the formation of a political movement called Tahya Tounes. On March 4, 2019, the party received its legal registration. On May 24, a treaty between Tahya Tounes and the al-Moubadara party was signed by Kamel Morjane , according to which al-Moubadara was merged into the Tahya Tounes party. On June 1, the first party congress elected the then incumbent Prime Minister Youssef Chahed as party chairman.

In the parliamentary elections in Tunisia in 2019 , the party lost most of its 43 seats in the People's Representative Assembly, but with 4.08 percent of the votes and 14 seats gained, a separate parliamentary group was again established in the People's Representative Assembly. Previously, party chairman Youssef Chahed ran for the presidential election in Tunisia in 2019 , but missed the runoff election by a significant margin with 7.38 percent of the vote.
