Tak & Wak , originally also Tak et Wak , is an originally French educational game series for PC that was developed by Kidoclic / Hortus Soft SA.

Concept and content

The project was founded in 1999 and dissolved in 2002. It was aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 8. In every game there are different activities like puzzles, games, painting programs, memories, songs and factual stories or reports about animals, everyday things like the earth etc. In Tak & Wak from 1 to Z there is even a calculation program for solving plus - and minus tasks up to 20 as well as "Wak's Dictionary", a dictionary suitable for children to consolidate their vocabulary. The German software publisher Cdv Software Entertainment published a total of three games in German-speaking countries:

These editions also adapt to the seasons and special occasions.

In addition, Tak & Wak were used in the four-part magazine Klickmaus ( OCLC 76192277 ) published by the German TREND publishing house from 2001 to 2002 :

  • Ran to the mouse with Tak & Wak *
  • Issue 4: Fit for school with Tak & Wak *

Werner Kolk is the spokesman for the title hero and all other characters in all games.

* These editions contain a different design in the "reception screen" within the game and generally do not adapt to the seasons or special occasions.

Characters

Tak and Wak are mythical creatures that guide the player through these activities. Tak is a yellow creature with a red nose and blue shoes. He's the mischievous daredevil compared to Wak, who is the more cautious of the two. Wak is a blue creature with a yellow head and a white belly. Further figures are the squirrel Fips, the ladybird Tupf and the carrier pigeon Feather.

Continuation of the project

After 2002, the French domain Kidoclic.fr referred to the British domain kidoclic.co.uk from Constructive Learning (originally brainworksonline), which later switched to web-land.net.

reception

The Austrian online magazine GamingXP praised the Tak & Wak test: Discover our earth the "contemporary, but not embarrassingly implemented" language and the varied combination of imparting knowledge and play as successful and entertaining. The help and instructions available at any time were also highlighted. The request to register after installation and an order function integrated in the program for a paid web magazine were criticized. The latter in particular was listed as a reason for devaluation. In addition, tester Peter Konhäusner missed the headset promised by the manufacturer, which is not included in the package, but will only be delivered by post after a warranty card has been filled out and returned. Konhäusner recommended parents to be present while playing, as questions from the children must be expected. Apart from that, however, he recommended a purchase “for children who show interest in computers and also want to have fun while learning”.
