Takako Shimura

Takako Shimura ( Japanese 志 村 貴子 , Shimura Takako ; born October 23, 1973 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese mangaka .

Career

Her first publication was the short story Boku wa, Onna no ko in 1997 in the manga magazine Comic Beam . In 1997 she published her first series Shikii no Jūnin in the same magazine .

Her two best-known series Hōrō Musuko and Aoi Hana were also implemented as anime television series and translated into different languages. Both deal with LGBT topics: while Hōrō Musuko focuses on different children who question their gender identity and who sometimes find their transgender identity in the course of the series , Aoi Hana deals with a lesbian love story at a girls' school. Hōrō Musuko , published in the USA by Fantagraphics as Wandering Son , was awarded the Great Graphic Novels for Teens prize by the American Library Association .
