Takeshi Okumura ( Japanese 奥 村 健 , Okumura Takeshi ; born April 24, 1952 in Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a Japanese pool player .
Career
Okumura started playing pool at the age of 16 . In 1978 he turned professional. In 1991 he reached seventh place at the US Open . In 1994 he became 9-ball world champion by beating his compatriot Itsuzaki Yasunari in the final . He was the first Japanese to win a pool world championship and after Chao Fong-Pang the second 9-ball world champion from Asia. At the 1996 World Pool Masters , he finished fifth. He finished the US Open in 1997 in ninth place. In 2000 he was eliminated in the sixteenth finals of the 9-Ball World Cup . At the US Open 2000 lost in the final against the American Earl Strickland . At the 9-ball World Cup in 2002 he was eliminated in the semi-finals, in 2004 in the round of 64. In the 8-ball tournament series International Pool Tour , he reached the 61st place at the North American Open in 2006 and the World Open 104th place.
