The Brno Viaduct or Brünntalbrücke is a 696 m long bridge on the 73 motorway .

The structure is located between the Schleusingen and Eisfeld- Nord motorway junctions near Brno in southern Thuringia. At a height of a maximum of 23 m with 14 fields it spans the brooks Brünna and Alterbach as well as the federal highways 4 from Eisfeld to Schleusingen and the B 281a from Brno to Sachsenbrunn . The route of the motorway in the area of ​​the bridge is straight in plan and shows a trough with a gradient change in elevation, with a gradient of 2.4% towards Schleusingen and 2.4% towards Eisfeld. The overpass with two separate superstructures was built between 2005 and 2007.

Foundation and substructures

The abutments have a flat foundation , the pillars are built on bored piles with a diameter of 1.2 m and a length of 10 to 20 m. The full cross-section of the maximum 20 m high pillars is V-shaped. To accommodate the bearings , the octagonal cross-section at the pier head expands 7.8 m below the superstructure into two rectangular cross-sections.

Superstructures

The two adjacent superstructures of the prestressed concrete bridge have the continuous beam as a structural system . They each have a box girder cross section with a constant construction height of 3.6 m. The prestressing consists of a mixed construction with internal and external tendons .

The total span for the 14-span bridge is 696.0 m, the two end spans span 40.4 m, the 12 inner spans have a span of 50.8 m.

The bridge superstructure was constructed using the incremental launching method , the incremental cellar was located on the eastern abutment .
