The Leuketal Viaduct is a 218 m long bridge on the A73 motorway at 10.2 km.

The structure is located between the Suhl- Friedberg and Schleusingen motorway junctions south of Hirschbach in southern Thuringia . It spans the Leuketal with the Leukebach and a forest path at a maximum height of 32 m with five fields. The route of the motorway has a longitudinal incline of 3.9% in the area of the bridge. The overpass with two separate superstructures was built between 2003 and 2005 at a construction cost of around 5.7 million euros.

Foundation and substructures

The full cross-section of the approximately 27 m high pillars is V-shaped. To accommodate the bearings , the octagonal cross-section at the pier head below the superstructure expands into two rectangular cross-sections.

Superstructures

The two adjacent superstructures of the prestressed concrete bridge have the continuous beam as a structural system in the longitudinal direction . In the transverse direction, the superstructures have a single-cell box girder cross-section with a constant construction height of 3.75 m. The prestressing consists of a mixed construction with internal and external tendons . The total span for the five-span bridge is 218.0 m. The two end fields each span 36.5 m, the adjacent inner fields have 45.0 m span and the middle opening 55.0 m.

execution

The bridge superstructure was constructed using the incremental launching method.
