The Nestelgraben viaduct is a 302 m long bridge on the federal motorway 73 .

The structure is located west of Lichtenfels between the motorway junctions Ebersdorf bei Coburg and Untersiemau . It spans the Nestelgraben valley with two forest paths at a maximum height of 25 m with eight fields in the Lichtenfels forest. The overpass with its curved floor plan with two separate superstructures was built between 2006 and 2007.

The abutments and piers are based on a total of 132 large bored piles with a diameter of 1.2 m and lengths between 13 and 28 m. Four piles were placed under the 1.2 m thick pile head plate for one column. The octagonal pillars, with a maximum height of 23 m, have a full reinforced concrete cross-section with a width of 2.1 m. These are connected in pairs by up to three crossbars.

Superstructures

The two adjacent superstructures of the prestressed concrete bridge have the continuous beam as a structural system. They have a two-web T-beam cross- section with a constant construction height of 1.9 m and a beam spacing of 6.5 m. The longitudinal preload consists of internal tendons . The superstructure has no cross beams in the column axes. The spans for the eight-span bridge are 31.0 m for the end spans and 40.0 m for the six inner spans.

Construction work

Construction began in March 2006 with the construction of the deep foundation using a pile drilling rig. The two superstructures are built with a prop scaffolding, which was supported on transverse yokes that were anchored in pillar recesses via plug-in girders. By the end of 2006, the superstructure for the Suhl carriageway was concreted. In July 2007, the superstructure for the other lane was built.
