Talcher was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Odisha . Its capital was the place Talcher .
Legend has it that Talcher was founded in the 12th century by one of the four brothers of the Kachwaha - Rajput dynasty. Talcher was one of 26 feudal states in what was then British India in the area of today's Odisha . On January 1, 1948, the state joined the Indian Union with the signature of the last ruler, Hrudaya Chandra Dev Birabar .
