Talent pool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A talent pool is a database or online platform , consisting of profiles of applicants, employees, freelancers or other external contacts. This is an instrument of human resources , which in the first place as part of the staff recruitment , the Active Sourcing and Human Resources Development is used. A fundamental distinction can be made between open and internal talent pools. In-house talent pools, in particular, are becoming increasingly important in an age of steadily increasing freelance numbers.

Internal talent pools

Are databases within a company with all interesting employees and applicants. If companies have a vacancy to fill, they can fall back on the talent pool and search for suitable applicants and employees using a profile comparison. The talents that the company identifies or gets to know over time (through university marketing, workshops, assessment centers , internships, social media campaigns, etc.) are included in the talent pool in a structured manner following a selection process. A talent pool must be set up as systematically as possible in order to have a good overview of the talents. Talent pools are subdivided into different groups of applicants so that the administrative effort is reduced and the applicants can be addressed specifically to target groups. Active Sourcing offers another approach to building up a talent pool in a targeted manner.

The use of a talent pool is also useful in order not to lose all rejected applicants. Especially if the applicant's specialist knowledge could be of interest to the company in the future. For example, an experiment within the scope of a study shows that applicants who, in addition to a rejection, receive the announcement that they will be included in a talent pool and that they will be considered directly in the future if there is a suitable vacancy (a so-called " ice writing "), more positive about this rejection react and are more favorable towards the company than with a standard rejection.

Talent pools are also becoming increasingly important in the management of external resources. Vendor management systems manage the application process between personnel service providers and companies, but there is usually no direct contact with external candidates. Internal talent pools give companies the opportunity to stay in direct contact with the most important external experts - even when there is no joint project.

Open talent pools

In addition to the internal talent pools of individual companies, there are also talent pools that are either operated by a company or an association and can be accessed by many different companies. There are many talent pools, especially in the artistic environment, with which the universities concerned want to create a springboard for their students and graduates into the industry. This concept was recognized as one of 365 locations at Land of Ideas 2012.
