Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia (born March 21, 1858 in Barcelona ; † September 1, 1931 ibid) was a Catalan architect and an important representative of modernism . Even if Sagnier is not one of the best-known representatives of Art Nouveau in Catalonia, it is one of the most productive with over 30 buildings in Barcelona alone.

Licensed as an architect in 1882, Sagnier became one of the preferred architects of the upper bourgeoisie of Barcelona in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His clients included entrepreneurs, as well as government and religious institutions. In 1902, in collaboration with Pere Garcia i Fària, he designed the Duana Nova ('New Customs Inspection') building on Passeig Josep Carner and in 1908 in collaboration with Josep Domènech i Estapà the Palau de Justícia ('Justizpalais') on Passeig Lluís Companys .

His style shows a wide variety of influences, ranging from neo-Gothic , such as the building of the Caixa de Pensions ('Pension Savings Bank ') in Via Laietana , to Rococo , such as the Casa Arnús in Carrer Manuel Arnús .

Sagnier is best known for his religious buildings, which include the Església dels caputxins de la mare de Déu de Pompeia ('Capuchin Church of Our Lady of Pompei') in the Avinguda Diagonal or the Capella del Santíssim (' Chapel of the Most Holy') of the monastery on Montserrat . In particular, his name is linked to the Temple expiatori del Sagrat Cor ('Sacred Heart of Jesus Atonement Church') on the summit of Tibidabo , which was completed after his death by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal and has become one of the landmarks of Barcelona .

In 1923 Enric Sagnier was appointed by Pope Pius XI. bestowed the title of Marquis de Sagnier .
