The valley mill

The Talmühle is a flour mill on the Glems in the Ditzingen district of Schöckingen in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The mill was first mentioned in a document around 1350 under the name Hartungs mûlin . In the following years the name changes several times. In 1381 it was called Obermülin , 1402 Engelins Mühle and 1523 Schöckinger Mühle . The mill was demolished in 1815 and rebuilt. It was given its current name Talmühle in 1830.

Mill technical facility

The mill was originally powered by three overshot water wheels , each 3.40 m high and 0.56 m wide. They were fed by a 950 m long canal branched off to the left of the Glems. In 1890 the three water wheels were replaced by a single wheel, which at that time drove three grinding stages and one tanning stage. In 1903, the flour mill had a 3.40 m high and 1.70 m wide water wheel. It had a gradient of 3.76 m and delivered a raw power of 7.5 hp with a water inflow of 159 l / s . In 1937, an electric motor was installed to support water power. The dilapidated water wheel was replaced in 1949 by an Ossberger turbine with a capacity of 470 l / s and a maximum output of 18.5 hp. In 1988 a Volk turbine with 18.5 HP (= 13.6  kW ) was put into operation.

Today the mill has two double roller mills and a shot gallery. The grinding capacity is (as of 1997) 5 tons in 24 hours. The products are sold to bakeries and private customers. A farm shop belongs to the mill.
