The Apartadura dam ( Portuguese Barragem da Apartadura ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Portalegre district . It dams the Sever , a left (southern) tributary of the Tejo to a reservoir (port. Albufeira da Barragem da Apartadura ). The municipality of São Salvador da Aramenha is one kilometer north of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1983. The construction was completed in 1993. In addition to the drinking water supply, the dam is also used for irrigation. It is owned by INAG .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a CFR dam with a height of 46.5 m above the foundation level (44.5 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 598 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 284 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the structure is 454,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 14.5 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 45 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 80 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 595 m (maximum 595.95 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.48 km² and holds 7.465 million m³ of water - 6.98 million m³ of this can be used. The minimum storage target is 568 m.
