The Cerro del Águila dam is located on the lower reaches of the Río Mantaro in the Peruvian region of Huancavelica . There it is located in the province of Tayacaja , 62 km east-southeast of the city of Huancayo . The dam is used to supply energy. The hydropower project was implemented in 2012-2016. The operator of the plant is Kallpa Generación SA
Dam and reservoir
The shut-off forms a 88 m high RCC - gravity dam with a crown length of about 230 m. It dams the Río Mantaro over a length of 8.7 km. The reservoir, which is a maximum of 320 m wide, extends almost to the point where the Restitución hydropower plant is located upstream .
Hydroelectric power plant
The hydropower plant Cerro del Águila (Spanish Central Hidroeléctrica Cerro del Águila ⊙ ) is a cavern power plant . A 6.6 km long aqueduct leads from the reservoir to the power plant in the north. Below the power plant, the water returns to the river via an approximately 1.9 km long drainage tunnel. The discharge point ( ⊙ ) is 26 kilometers below the dam. The power plant has 3 Francis turbines with an output of 170 MW each. The average annual energy production is 3139 GWh. The height of fall is 242 m, the volume of water used is 100 m³ / s.
