The dam Corte Brique ( Portuguese Barragem de Corte Brique ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Beja district . It dams the Corte Brique , a right (northern) tributary of the Mira, to a reservoir. The small town of Odemira is about twelve kilometers west of the dam, the Santa Clara dam is about six kilometers south of it.
The project to build the dam began in 1986. The construction was completed in 1993. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by the Associação de Beneficiários do Mira .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 28 m above the foundation level . The crest of the dam is at a height of 137 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 117 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 136,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 2.83 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 62.9 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 83.1 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 500 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 134.62 m (maximum 135.8 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.178 km² and holds 1.636 million m³ of water - of which 1.464 million m³ can be used. The minimum congestion destination is 115 m.
