The Fagilde dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Fagilde ) is located in the central region of Portugal in the Viseu district . It dams the Dão , a right (northern) tributary of the Mondego to a reservoir ( Albufeira da Barragem de Fagilde in Portuguese ). The municipality of Fragosela is about five kilometers west of the dam.

The project to build the dam began in 1979. The construction was completed in 1984. The dam is owned by the public utilities of Viseu , the Serviços Municipalizados de Viseu .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a combination of arch and pier dam . Its height is 27 m above the foundation level (18.5 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at a height of 312.5 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 63.3 m and its width is 2 m. The volume of the dam is 8,940 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 515 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 547 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.

Reservoir

At the normal storage target of 310 m (maximum 311.6 m at high tide) the reservoir holds 2.8 million m³ of water. The minimum congestion destination is 300 m.
