biography

Radlica's coat of arms

Johann Radlica came from a Szlachta family that bore the Korab coat of arms . From 1361 he studied theology and medicine at the universities of Paris and Montpellier .

From 1374 he worked as a canon in Cracow. In 1376 he was appointed personal physician to King Ludwig . 1380 was appointed chancellor of the crown . On February 5, 1382 he was appointed Bishop of Krakow as the successor to Zawisza von Kurozweki . In the same year he supported the establishment of the Pauline monastery in Jasna Góra .

During the interregnum from 1382 to 1384 triggered by Ludwig's death , Radlica openly spoke out in favor of the Anjou's claim to rule and the establishment of the Polish-Lithuanian Union . In 1384 he received Princess Hedwig of Anjou in Cracow. He assisted her with her coronation and was present at her wedding ceremony. In addition, he received a rationale personally embroidered by the new queen . This has been preserved to this day and is worn by the Kraków bishops at important ceremonies and celebrations. In 1390 Radlica founded a Benedictine monastery together with Hedwig in Kraków's Kleparz district . He also campaigned for the reconstruction of the Jagiellonian University , the development of which has stagnated since the death of King Kasimir . He died on January 12, 1392 and was buried in Wawel Cathedral .
