The Gostei dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Gostei ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the Gostei into a reservoir. The city of Bragança is about four kilometers northeast of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1986. The construction was completed in 1993. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by the Junta de Agricultores de Gostei .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a dam with a height of 35 m above the foundation level (33 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 759.65 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 238 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 188,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 3.5 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 35 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 59 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 500 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 758 m (maximum 758.65 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.149 km² and holds 1.384 million m³ of water - of which 1.374 million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 736 m.
