The dam Koudiat Acerdoune ( French Barrage de Koudiat Acerdoune ) is located in Algeria in the municipality of Lakhdaria , Bouira province . It dams the Oued Isser into a reservoir. The town of Lakhdaria is about twelve kilometers north of the dam.
The dam was built from 2000 to 2009 (or from 2002 to 2008). It is used for irrigation and drinking water supply.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a gravity dam made of rolled concrete with a height of 120 (or 121) m and a crown length of 425 (or 490, 492 or 493) m. The top of the wall lies at a height of 321 m above sea level . The width of the dam is 134 m at the base and 8 m at the top. 1.85 million m³ of concrete were used for the structure, of which 1.5 million m³ of rolled concrete.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 7,000 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 8,600 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 10,000 years.
During the construction of the dam, the water was diverted through two diversion tunnels. One of these tunnels now serves as a bottom outlet.
Reservoir
If the reservoir is completely blocked, it will hold 400 (or 640) million m³ of water. 70 million m³ of water are used annually for the drinking water supply and 108 million m³ for irrigation purposes.
