The Lucefecit dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Lucefecit ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Évora district . It dams the Lucefécit , a right (western) tributary of the Guadiana to a reservoir (Port. Albufeira da Barragem de Lucefecit ). The small town of Alandroal is about five kilometers north of the dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1976. The construction was completed in 1982. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by the Junta de Agricultores do Lucefécit .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 27 m above the foundation level (23 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 185 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 285 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 300,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 15 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 390 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 700 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 182 m (maximum 183.5 or 183 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 1.68 (or 1.69) km² and holds 10 (or 10.225) million m³ of water - of which 8.75 (or 9) million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 172.5 m.
