The Minutos dam ( Portuguese Barragem dos Minutos ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Évora district . It dams the Almansor , a left (southern) tributary of the Sorraia, to a reservoir. The town of Montemor-o-Novo is about six kilometers west of the dam.
The dam was completed in 2003. It is used for irrigation and is owned by the Instituto de Hidráulica, Engenharia Rural e Ambiente .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 36 m above the foundation level (33.5 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 267.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 1,293 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 1.219 million m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 13.5 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet. The design flood is 633 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 10,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 264 m (maximum 265.54 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 5.3 km² and holds 52.1 million m³ of water - of which 50 million m³ can be used. The minimum congestion target is 245 m.
