The Sorraia ( Portuguese Rio Sorraia ) is a river in the Alentejo region of Portugal , which flows almost entirely through the Santarém district . On the last 15 km before the confluence with the estuary of the Tagus (port. Estuário do Tejo ) it forms the border between the districts of Santarém and Lisbon .
The Sorraia is created by the confluence of the Sor , its right (northern) source river and Raia , its left (southern) source river above the municipality of Couço . It then flows mostly in a westerly direction. About 1 km after the small town of Benavente , the Sorraia changes direction and flows from then on to its confluence with the Tejo to the southwest.
On the last eight kilometers before its mouth, the Sorraia flows through a nature reserve (Portuguese Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo ).
