The Ribeira do Paúl dam ( Portuguese Barragem da Ribeira do Paúl ) is located in the central region of Portugal in the Viseu district . It dams the Ribeira do Paúl , a right (western) tributary of the Dão, to a reservoir. The town of Tondela is about six kilometers south of the dam.

The dam was completed in 2004. It is used to supply drinking water. The dam is owned by the Associação de Municípios da Região do Planalto Beirão , the association of the districts ( Municípios ) of the local plateau in the Beira region .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 27 m above the river bed. The top of the dam is at a height of 360.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 200 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 226,000 m³.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 44 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 74.6 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.

Reservoir

With a normal storage target of 358 m (maximum 359 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.273 km² and holds 2.4 million m³ of water - of which 2.3 million m³ can be used.
