The Salgueiro dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Salgueiro ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the Salgueiro , a right (northern) tributary of the Douro, to a reservoir. The municipality of Lodões is located approximately 3 km southwest of the dam. The Santa Justa dam is about 1.5 km southeast.
The project to build the dam began in 1971. The construction was completed in 1977. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by DRATM .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 28 m above the foundation level (25 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 223.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 221 m and its width 8 m. The volume of the dam is 204,000 m³.
The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 5 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 29 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 45 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 500 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 222 m (maximum 222.5 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.22 km² and holds 1.8 million m³ of water - 1.65 million m³ of this can be used. The minimum storage target is 204.5 m.
