The Venda Velha dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Venda Velha ) is located in the Lisbon region of Portugal in the Setúbal district .

It dams the Ribeira da Asseiceira to a reservoir. The town of Montijo is about ten kilometers west of the dam.

The project to build the dam began in 1957. The construction was completed in the same year. The dam serves not only for irrigation but also for flood protection. It is owned by the Sociedade Agrícola de Rio Frio .

The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 12.5 m above the river bed. The top of the dam is at a height of 18.55 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 550 m and its width 4 m. The volume of the dam is 78,000 m³.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 12 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 139 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 300 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 14.55 m (maximum 16.35 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 1.15 km² and holds 4.7 million m³ of water. The minimum stowage destination is 5.55 m.
