Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani ( Arabic تميم بن حمد آل ثاني, DMG Tamīm b. Ḥamad Āl Ṯānī ; * June 3, 1980 in Doha , Qatar ) has been head of state of the Emirate of Qatar since 2013 .

Life

Tamim was born as the fourth son of Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani with his second wife Musa bint Nasser al-Missned in 1980. He graduated from Shireburn High School in the UK in 1997 and graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy in 1998 . In 2003 he was appointed his father's successor. Among other things, he is President of the National Olympic Committee and a member of the IOC (since 2002). He is also chairman of the Qatar Supreme Education Council and has held positions of responsibility in various Qatar organizations. On June 25, 2013, his father Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani abdicated as head of state. The crown prince, then 33 years old, became the youngest head of state in the Arab world. He is also the commander in chief of the armed forces of Qatar .

2007 he was awarded the United States Sports Academy in Daphne the honorary doctorate .

He is married to three women. His wives are Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani (married 2005), Anoud bint Mana al-Hajri (married 2009) and Noora bint Hathal ad-Dosari (married 2015). He has nine children.
