Tamar Mcheidse

Tamar Mcheidze ( Georgian თამარ მხეიძე; born December 22, 1915 in Kutaisi , Georgia , † April 11, 2007 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian arachnologist .

Life

Tamar Mcheidse grew up in Kutaisi and studied zoology at the Tbilisi State University . Until 1990 she worked at the local institute for zoology as a lecturer and even after her retirement as an arachnologist.

Tamar Mcheidze was married to the Georgian limnologist Lavrosi Kutubidze.

Services

Mcheidze was the first female arachnologist from the Caucasus region . She was mainly concerned with researching the spider fauna of her home country Georgia and published over thirty scientific papers. As part of this work, she described more than 40 species of spiders and harvesters for the first time for science.
