Tan Twan Eng

Tan Twan Eng (* 1972 in Penang ) is an author from Malaysia .

Tan Twan Eng studied law at the University of London and worked as a lawyer in Kuala Lumpur before starting to write books.

His first book The Gift of Rain is set during the Japanese occupation of Malaysia and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2007 .

His second book, The Garden of Evening Mists , was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2012. Set at the end of the Japanese occupation of Malaysia, the novel won the Man Asian Literary Prize 2012 for best book by an Asian author and the Walter Scott Prize for historical novels 2013.
