The Tanagro is a river in southwest Italy.

geography

The river has its source near the town of Casalbuono in southern Italy . Casalbuono is in the province of Salerno . In the further course it mainly drains the Vallo di Diano in a northerly direction. In the area of this valley, the river is to a large extent canalized before it can flow freely again for the last 20 kilometers. At Casalbuono it finally unites with the Sele .

Hydrology

The water of the Tanagro comes mainly from the Vallo di Diano. Furthermore, the Bianco, which flows in from the north-east and rises near Ricigliano, flows about 10 kilometers before it flows into the river. The average amount of water in this river is about 20 m³ per second.
