The Tannermoor counts with an area of 120 hectares of the largest mountain pine bogs Austria .

It is listed as a Natura 2000 protected area and is isolated in Liebenau in the northernmost part of the lower Mühlviertel at an altitude of 900 meters. The Tannermoor was formed around 10,000 years ago after the last ice age. It is fed exclusively by rainwater and is largely covered with pine trees. In the middle there are two wooded rock islands.

In addition to pines, the tree vegetation consists mainly of birch and alder . Spruces also grow in the peripheral areas . In addition, refer to the Tanner Moor bog plants such as bog berry , heather , Carex limosa , peat moss , bog Wachtelweizen or bog rush .

The moor itself was never used economically, only in the peripheral zones, which were afforested with spruce in the previous century, timber was operated.

The Rubner Teich (also Rubener Teich , Lage ) with its black and red moor water was created by a small dam . The small lake used to provide the water for the annual wood flooding and is now ideal for swimming in summer. In good weather you can also fish.

A moor hiking trail of around six kilometers leads from Rubner Teich over footbridges and bridges between the mountain pines to a high stand from which the entire moor area can be seen. The path leads back to Rubner Teich over the Lehrmüller wall, a towering granite rock .
