Tara Fares , actually Asha Tara Faris Shamoon ( Arabic تارة فارس شمعون, DMG Tāra Fāris Šamʿūn ; * January 10, 1996 ; died September 27, 2018 in Baghdad ), was an Iraqi model . She gained notoriety through her Instagram channel, which was followed by up to 2.7 million users. She was murdered by unknown perpetrators.

Life

Tara Fares, daughter of an Iraqi father and a Lebanese mother, lived in Erbil . Baptized as a Christian, she later converted to Islam. When she was 16, she married at the request of her parents. She divorced after giving birth to her son. She documented her western lifestyle on her Instagram channel.

The former Miss Baghdad and runner-up in the Miss Iraq 2014 competition was killed in her Porsche in September 2018 while driving in the Baghdad neighborhood of Camp Sarah with three shots from a pedestrian who escaped as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle. The perpetrators were not caught. Her followers assume that the act is related to their lifestyle. The satirist Ahmed al-Bashir , who lives in exile in Jordan , commented on the short message service Twitter : "Anyone who finds an excuse to kill a girl just because she has decided to live like almost all girls on this planet, makes himself an accomplice. "

Her body was taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Baghdad for an autopsy . The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced an investigation into the case that did not reveal any new information.
