The Tarn Flat ( English for pond level ) is an extensive, rocky plain on the Scott coast of East Antarctica Victoria Land . It is located east of Mount Gerlache and borders the northern flank of the Backstairs Passage Glacier above Terra Nova Bay .

Scientists from a 1962 to 1963 campaign for the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition named it after the numerous small lakes and ponds that are on the plain.
