Charlemagne Oscar Guet (born January 24, 1801 in Meaux , † November 29, 1871 in Paris ) was a French genre and portrait painter.

Life

Guët studied from 1818 to 1821 at the École des beaux-arts de Paris . He was a student of Antoine-Jean Gros as well as Louis Hersent and Horace Vernet .

From 1824 to 1845 he went on study trips through France , Holland , Switzerland , Italy , Turkey and Greece . From 1819 Guët exhibited his works in the Salon de Paris and took part in the exhibitions in Leipzig in 1837, 1839 and 1843 and in the Kunstverein Lübeck in 1850, 1852 and 1854. He was awarded 2nd class medals in 1821 and 1822 and a 1st class medal in 1838, and in July 1846 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . Guet last lived at Place Vendôme No. 26, was married and had children and grandchildren.
