Tatsuya Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 達 也 , Nakamura Tatsuya ; born January 2, 1945 in Tochigi Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( drums , composition).

Live and act

Nakamura began playing drums in high school when he was 16. In 1974 he moved to New York to take lessons from Roy Haynes . In 1976 he presented the album Song of Pat with his quartet, which consisted of Ted Daniel , Oliver Lake and Richard Davis , and then returned to Japan. In 1977 he recorded a live album with Keizo Inoue and Kaoru Abe ( Live at 八 王子 ア ロ ー ン ). In 1978 he gave concerts in Japan with Joseph Bowie and Daniel; Kiyoshi Sugimoto also brought him to recordings. In 1979 he recorded his album Where is the Quater for CBS / Sony , only to work longer in New York. There, in addition to Davis, George Adams and Hugh Lawson belonged to his quartet, with whom he recorded the album Rip-Off in 1980, which was released by Victor the following year . In 1988 he recorded again in New York with George Adams ( Ole ); the following year he gave concerts in Tokyo with bassist Richard Davis and pianists Masahiko Satoh and Masaru Imada . Between 1990 and 1998 Nakamura headed the New York Unit (with pianist John Hicks and again with Davis on bass), with which he toured Japan every year with soloists such as Adams, Hannibal Marvin Peterson , Javon Jackson and James Carter and released several albums. most recently in 2003 (only in trio) the album Besame Mucho . With his Japan Jazz Unit he released the album Jazz in Now Power in 2012 . In 2014 the collaborative album Bibliophina was released with Masakatsu Takagi, Yoshie Nakano and Chie Morimoto and the album Interconnection with Ted Daniel's Energy Module .

Nakamura has also toured Australia, Indonesia and Germany; In 2004 he presented his quartet Japan Jazz Unit (with tenor saxophonist Suetoshi Shimizu, pianist Teruaki Ueno and bassist Kazutero Harada) in Senegal and Turkey.
