Pigeon tower in Milly-la-Forêt

The pigeon tower in Milly-la-Forêt , a French town in the Essonne department in the Île-de-France region , was built in the 13th century.

The round pigeon tower originally belonged to the monastery of Milly, which was destroyed in 1432, and then to the domain of Fulbert I.

According to a census in 1762, the tower had around 1200 armor beams and pigeon nests. The number of pigeon nests reflected the wealth of the landlord : the greater the number of arable land, the more pigeon nests there were.
