The pigeon tower (French colombier or pigeonnier ) of the Château de Mesnil-Voisin in Bouray-sur-Juine , a French commune in the Essonne department in the Île-de-France region , was built in the 17th century.
description
The pigeon tower has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as part of the castle as a Monument historique since 1993 .
The round tower made of quarry stone , which stands in the courtyard of the outbuildings of the castle, is crowned by a roof pommel. The 3000 pigeon nests are still preserved inside. A rotating staircase made it possible to get the pigeon dung out of the nests to use it as fertilizer.
