The pigeon tower (French colombier or pigeonnier ) of the Château de Beauregard in Saint-Jean-de-Beauregard , a French commune in the Essonne department in the Île-de-France region , was built in the 17th century.

description

The pigeon tower has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as part of the castle as a Monument historique since 1993 .

The round tower made of quarry stone is crowned by a lantern . The 4500 pigeon nests are still preserved inside. A rotating staircase made it possible to get the pigeon dung out of the nests to use it as fertilizer.
