Tauber Franconian Landscape Museum
The Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum has been located in the Kurmainzisches Schloss in Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district since 1970 .
Museum exhibition
The museum exhibition in 20 rooms includes:
- a historical model of the town of Bischofsheim (former name of Tauberbischofsheim) showing the town and castle in the 18th century (with a town fortification that had over 20 towers), of which only a few survive today, for example the Hunger Tower or the Türmersturm , a landmark today's city,
- Exhibits to the Kurmainzischen Castle and
- Information about the old town castle,
- two preserved Gothic floorboards in the castle (from the 13th to the 16th century),
- sacred art,
- Furniture from the Renaissance, through Baroque to Biedermeier,
- rural costumes,
- historical furniture, household and handicraft tools,
- a pipe collection,
- a prehistoric collection from the Paleolithic to the Frankish conquest as well
- a replica of the Tauberbischofsheimer Grünewald altar from 1524 .
The copy of the cross-bearing of the Tauberbischofsheimer altar in the Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum was made in 1985 by Matthias Hickel. Since 1926, a copy of the crucifixion made by Josef Ziegler in the baroque altarpiece from 1761 has been located in the town church of St. Martin. The original of the Tauberbischofsheimer altar , made by Matthias Grünewald in 1524 , has been in the possession of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe since 1900 .
